Young actress Charlbi Dean, who portrayed the evil assassin Syonide on The CW's Black Lightning, passed away at the age of 32 as a result of an unforeseen illness.
There are currently no additional data available regarding the cause of death.
Dean, who was born and raised in South Africa, along with her co-stars made headlines in May when Triangle of Sadness, which won the festival's top prize.
Dean portrayed Syonide, the adopted daughter of Tobias Whale, in the DC Universe series Black Lighting. Seasons 1 and 2 both included her character.
Dean, who was born Charlbi Dean Kriek on February 5, 1990 in Cape Town, made her acting debut in the 2010 South African comedy Spud.
In "Triangle of Sadness," Dean recently got the biggest part of her acting career opposite Woody Harrelson.
Dean and her then-boyfriend, a fellow model named Ashton Schnehage, escaped a near-fatal vehicle accident in 2009.
Dean's most recent modelling project was for the Madewell campaign "When the Fit Hits," which debuted last week and aims to highlight actors in their "breakout moments."
